Can I have my MOA or assistant call to set up a time for a consultation?
No. Care providers should call the Compass line themselves. If possible, set aside approximately 10 minutes for your initial call. Often we can address many of your questions during your first call.
How quickly can I speak to a clinician at Compass?
Compass aims to have a member of our multidisciplinary team answer phone calls and respond to your questions in real time. For more specialized questions, we aim to get back to you within the same or next day. Zoom consults with the provider, patient, and Compass team are organized on an as-needed basis.
What age of children and youth can I call Compass about?
Compass supports providers treating children or youth from birth to 25 years of age.
How do I make a referral to the BC Children’s Hospital mental health programs?

Can I book a call with Compass through Pathways?
Yes! When you send a message to Compass through the Pathways messenger tool, Compass will aim to get back to you within 1-2 business days.
Can I have my I made a referral to the BC Children’s Hospital mental health outpatient programs (ADHD, Eating Disorder, etc). Can Compass give me an update on my referral?MOA or assistant call to set up a time for a consultation?
No. Compass cannot provide updates on outpatient referrals. Right now, please allow 6 weeks for a response back.
My patient was seen at BC Children’s Hospital. Do you have access to their previous consultations?
No. We do not have access to BC Children’s Hospital patient consultations or files. However, if you have previously called Compass about a patient, we do have access to past Compass consultation files.

Compass is a service for care providers. Families and caregivers should contact the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre for information and questions related to child and youth mental health.
I’m looking for an assessment for my child. Is this the Compass Assessment Clinic?
No. The Compass Clinic is separate from the BC Children’s Compass Mental Health Program. Please find their contact information here.
What are the possible outcomes of a Compass consultation call?
During a consultation call: An experienced clinician will answer and triage the call. They will determine whether Compass can provide day-of support from a Compass child and adolescent psychiatrist.Compass will provide the caller with information about resources in their local community and system navigationCompass may recommend a PIT assessment or a full direct assessment through Zoom with the patient, provider and Compass team members
How does Compass work with Learning Links or PSP modules?
Learning Links are a series of online modules designed to enhance community care providers’ knowledge of mental health and substance use concerns in children and youth. PSP modules support providers with learning sessions and online tools and educational resources.
Compass is a provider consultation service that can support community care providers confidence in implementing the skills and theories learnt through Learning Links or PSP. Community care providers have access to talk through their next steps in supporting a patient with a C&Y MHSU specialist in real time. These two resources can work hand in hand at helping to increase community care provider’s confidence and capacity in treating C&Y mental health and substance use concerns.
How does Compass differ from Kelty?
Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre provides mental health and substance use information, resources, help with system navigation and peer support to children, youth and their families across BC. Their services are free of charge and available to children, youth and families via telephone, in person or email.
Compass is a resource for community care providers. During a consultation, Compass may direct providers to Kelty Mental Health as a resource to support patients and families. Both services work together to help support children and youth with mental health and substance use concerns.
